In Life thoughts

Thoughts from 00:32, January 1, 2016

Does New Year’s Eve ever feel slightly anticlimactic to you? We chant the countdown to the New Year in unison, stay up late, go partying, set off fireworks - all celebrating the passing of time. I think that’s quite beautiful. In fact, it’s one of my favourites things about humanity. We set aside a certain day to celebrate just one second. We celebrate again and, well, what we really celebrate is time.

Birthdays, anniversaries, New Years. It’s just marking time. You don’t see my cat setting off fireworks because another day has started (that just so happened to be January 1st). She doesn’t care. All she cares about is that she’s hungry and wants a cuddle. She doesn’t give a damn about your New Year’s Resolutions. She’s a cat.

But we humans, we do give a damn. I mean how many blog posts have you seen that publish a blogger’s goals for the coming year? Yeah, a whole load, including two posts from me.

We choose this day to start bettering ourselves (or should I say attempting to better ourselves?), when that could be done on any day of the year. Seconds go by without us even thinking about it.

One second.
Two seconds.
Three seconds.

All gone without you noticing. We just want food. We just want to sleep.  Something far more important is on your mind. Seconds are insignificant. Aren’t they?
