One of my favourite films is Stardust (though I didn't mention it in my favourite films post oops...). You know the one with the witches and the princes, the pirates and the magical kingdom? Yeah, that one. Well, one of my favourite parts/lines from it is a bit that’s quite near the end of the film and the two main characters, Yvaine and Tristan (Tristran if you’re going by his original book name) are in a caravan, the latter being a mouse. Yvaine expresses her views on love and tells how she thinks that she loves him, to a supposedly unknowing Tristan.

No one really knows what love is and can’t describe it when they want to try, and Yvaine seems to make that pretty clear. Everyone seems to be confused by love and I don’t think we’ll ever properly figure it out.
The thing is that no one love is the same. There are so many different types of love and everyone loves in a different way that it has become impossible to pinpoint it exactly.
I myself love in lots of different ways. I love my family completely, even if they get on my nerves all the time. Even if they eat the last of my favourite food or don’t like watching Disney films with me all the time.
I love my friends. I don’t get to see most of them as much as I’d like to but I still love them. Especially when I’m with them and it’s like nothing has changed. Friends are special. Obviously there are varying degrees of friendship, as there are of love. It’s never the same with each friend but it should always be treasured, nonetheless.
I love my cat. I love books. I love Nutella. I love music. I love words. I love myself. Each is a different kind of love in their own individual way and right.
It feels like the only sort of love that is focused on in our society is the romantic kind. (Yes, I know that demonstrated that kind with Yvaine and Tristan but let’s forget that!) Romantic love is shown everywhere; in films, books, just everywhere. It is important, but we should remember that it isn’t the only type of love we have. We can feel all sorts of love. It’s ridiculous how much love we can feel.
We shouldn’t restrict ourselves to romantic love, or let us think that just because we’re not in a relationship then we’re not loved. You have so many people around you who love you: your family, your friends, your dog, your cat, your goldfish. There are so many people who love you and surround you daily. Never forget them and never give up on them.
"You know when I said I knew little about love? That wasn't true. I know a lot about love. I've seen it, centuries and centuries of it, and it was the only thing that made watching your world bearable. All those wars. Pain, lies, hate... It made me want to turn away and never look down again. But when I see the way that mankind loves... You could search to the furthest reaches of the universe and never find anything more beautiful. So yes, I know that love is unconditional. But I also know that it can be unpredictable, unexpected, uncontrollable, unbearable and strangely easy to mistake for loathing, and... What I'm trying to say, Tristan is... I think I love you. Is this love, Tristan? I never imagined I'd know it for myself. My heart... It feels like my chest can barely contain it. Like it's trying to escape because it doesn't belong to me any more. It belongs to you. And if you wanted it, I'd wish for nothing in exchange - no gifts. No goods. No demonstrations of devotion. Nothing but knowing you loved me too. Just your heart, in exchange for mine."
